DOCUMENTARIES
GRASSROOTS4LAVIE
The project was carried out across 4 Caribbean countries - Antigua & Barbuda, Dominica, Saint Lucia and Trinidad & Tobago, building off of other initiatives ongoing since 2014, which have aimed to reintroduce and spread indigenous knowledge about vetiver grass as a multi-faceted green infrastructure and bioengineering tool that can aid with a host of soil and water related challenges, such as landslides, infrastructure damage and loss and soil-water degradation. The need for cost effective, green and scalable solutions to these challenges has become more urgent in recent years due to more extreme weather, such as hurricanes and historical rainfall events driven by a changing climate - such as Hurricanes Maria and Irma which ravaged multiple Caribbean islands in 2018, and where Dominica saw almost 10,000 landslides during Hurricane Maria alone.
KING VETIVER
As the world seeks to address climate change issues, meet Mr. Anthony Glasgow, a proud artisan from Grenada (Grenada, Caribbean) who works with a plant material known as vetiver. He uses the leaves of this plant to earn a living, but also to stay connected with his community. In addition to knowing that his teachings using the plant help strengthen ties with the youth of Grenada, Mr. Glasgow deeply believes that this plant could be a game changer for climate resilience.
BESNER
Experience an intimate encounter with Dominic Besner, the world-renowned Franco-Ontarian painter. The artist opens up about his childhood, sharing how that time in his life shaped his imaginative world.
A DRIVE WITH PAM
Some unexpected encounters can profoundly move us and help us fully appreciate what it means to be human. During one of my trips to Trinidad and Tobago, I took the time to sit down with PAMELA and listen to her story. This octogenarian living with Alzheimer's had more than a few tricks up her sleeve to help us forget her condition and remind us that when we truly love life, nothing can hold us back.
FRAGMENT DE RÉALITÉ
l'art de cultiver son âme
The film aims to highlight the importance of culture at the heart of education and its impact on the well-being of students who learn to express themselves, to know themselves, and to recognize themselves. Through a strong partnership and the mediation of various artists, theaters, and cultural organizations, students in the Cultural Exploration program have created digital works inspired by an artist and two plays they discovered throughout the year.
"If art were to disappear, I think the world would be in black and white […] everyone would be the same, everyone would do the same thing, there would be nothing extraordinary […]". — Annabelle
